Guys, guys, sorry I haven’t posted a song in like, over a week, like I said, I’m out of new ones except for one or two little ones (if you guys wanna hear let me know, but they aren’t anything special). This is an old track. This is THE old track. This is actually the first song I ever finished, and the track that got me set on songwriting. I personally don’t think it’s anything special, but I’ve heard more positive things about this song than any other song I’ve ever written. This is so old that I actually played it when I had a band, it’s like two and a half years old. The recording is less than a year old though. I’m pretty happy with the way the recording turned out, I guess that’s why I uploaded it. I’d love to record it live with a full band though, I think it would sound so much better with a more organic, garage-y sound.
PS: I’m working on a release right now (like, an album/mixtape/EP-type thing). It’s going to be split between tracks I’ve uploaded and some brand new tracks. It’ll have album-y things like interludes and it has kind of a reprise. I’ve got some good ideas brewing. Keep an eye out for it, I’ll probably drop it in the next couple weeks. Tell yo frands.
Bowties - I Was A Fool
So here’s an old track to tide you guys over until I have a some more new ones :)
This was really influenced by Belle & Sebastian and Sebadoh (incase you were wondering. You should listen to both of those bands if you don’t!). It’s one of the three or four songs I’ve done that I’m legitimately proud of, and it was by far my favorite from my set of old tracks, so I hope you guys like it!
Oh, this is also in celebration of me reaching over 100 plays! WHOO! That’s like more than 10 plays for every song I’ve posted! That’s in less than a month too!! :D :D Thanks for listening, everyone!!
Dark Enough For Stars - Real (It Could Be)
This went through SO MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS before I finished it. It started out as a spacy acoustic song, then it was a short little dream pop song, then it was really long and had a lot of shifting dynamics, then I went back to acoustic but made it more folk-rocky. It came out way more classic rock than I expected. It’s mostly acoustic guitar. I got into the vocals a little too much. I hope that makes up for the bad lyrics.*
Anyway, not much to say about this track honestly. It’s not bad but it’s not my favorite thing I’ve ever done. Also, I’m officially out of new songs for the time being, but I might throw some old tracks at you guys. I’m working on about 7 tracks right now, but none of them are finished and none of them are that great. I’ll probably just drop all or most of them at once as an EP or something. I’m thinking of working on some acoustic stuff soon, so stay tuned for that. I have a lot of really good ideas and some decent lyrics waiting for a good musical home.
*except for the line “It was straight-up sweetness,” I love that line.
Kevin: “I should write a heavy metal song.”
Kevin: “It has to be about something brutal.”
K: “Like what?”
K: “Dinosaurs are pretty brutal.”
K: “You know what would be even MORE brutal? A FARM OF DINOSAURS.”
K: “YOU ARE GENIUS.”
Then I high-fived myself and wrote this song. This happened in public.
Just a word of warning, this has a screaming section at the end and the solo is pretty bad. However, the bridge (“FOSSILS IN THE GROUND…” etc.) is literally my #1 favorite thing that I’ve ever written. I think the titular “dinosaur farm” is like…a place where a bunch of dinosaurs died, in ancient times, when there were dinosaurs. So it’s really more like “Dinosaur Tomb” or “Dinosaur Burial Ground” I guess, but “Dinosaur Farm” was just catchier and sounded more radical to me when I wrote this song. I dunno I think there was a lot of caffeine involved. ENJOY THE SWEET SOUNDS OF ME BEING OUT OF MY ELEMENT.
PS: if you found this on my Soundcloud first then YOU CHEATED.
Dark Enough For Stars - Robots
I woke up this morning and I said “I’m gonna upload an indie rock song.”
This one is derpy and old (I’d estimate about 8 months old) and it’s about unicorns or something like that (I wasn’t being completely serious when I wrote this song, it kinda came out of an inside joke between me and my little sister), but I really like the texture I was able to get with the guitar and bass, and the solo is pretty sweet, and it kinda sounds like REM if you squint your ears/brain a little bit. I’m gonna do some more songs like this before I leave. I really like these short, not completely serious, 90’s influenced tracks.
Bowties - The Things She Never Said
Actually I’m gonna post a song today anyway.
Here’s how I write songs (or more specifically, lyrics): I come up with a cool title, and then I use it as a prompt from which I write a few verses. That’s why this song sounds so awkward. I realized partway in that the verses would have sounded so much better in the second person, but I kept them in the third person anyway because “The Things She Never Said” is just such a cool song title, and the chorus is awesome. So try to ignore the verses, it’s not like the lyrics mean anything anyway lol.
PS: This was influenced primarily by Destroyer and The Magnetic Fields but it came out sounding a lot like “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” by The Smiths. In fact it sounds exactly like it until about 20 seconds in. But that stops, don’t worry.
PSS: This is the one I was talking about a few days ago, but I don’t really like it nearly as much anymore. The production turned out absolutely perfect (I think that’s why I liked it), but the song itself is way too serious. Nothing this serious will happen again for a while. I have a quirky indie rock song from a year ago que’d up for a few days from now.
PSSS: I hope you guys like acoustic stuff/minimalist stuff like this, this is pretty much all you’re getting once I head back to school.
*I’m also looking for people to collaborate with, so if you know/are someone even remotely musical at UTD then get in touch with me via just about any way you can. *

Dark Enough For Stars - Magic 8-Ball
This is actually the first song I recorded over break, so I probably should have uploaded this way earlier. I’m not super happy with the way this one turned out though, it sounded way better in my head. Like this was one of my favorite originals before I put it to tape, but it just came out sounding…bleh. Maybe you guys’ll like it since you won’t be comparing it to how awesome it sounded in my head.
D’aww thanks, you’re the sweetest :) srsly made my day
The thing is though, whether I could or not, a music career isn’t something I’d want to pursue as my only thing. I love it to death, but it’s really just a hobby, I’ve just always kinda thought it’d be irresponsible to make it my main thing, y’know? I wouldn’t complain if it happened though. Good to know I’d at least have a fan :)
Dark Enough For Stars - Sailing
I don’t know if you guys’ll like this one, but I’m really happy with the way this turned out (I think the end bit could have been longer though). I’ve been working on this on and off for like a year and I’m happy to finally have it finished. It’s a touch darker and heavier than the other stuff I’ve been posting.
PS: lyrics are depressing, but I’m not actually depressed, I wrote most of it after a breakup…about a year ago.
PSS: This isn’t the good song I was talking about in my last post, but that particular song really isn’t that good…it’ll get posted in a couple days anyway.
Dark Enough For Stars - Jumpman (I Wanna Go There)
This song is about going places or something. I haven’t uploaded a song in forever, so I thought I’d drop an old track. This one is really old and derpy. Like, I recorded this a year ago. But it’s catchy. I don’t remember what was going through my head when I wrote and recorded this. I think I was trying to sound like Nirvana.
I have some pretty cool new ones, but I need to re-do the vocals on the really good one, so check back later.
